Silver for Blizzard at Canada Cup

Posted: 27th May 2010 by davidtoupin in Blizzard Elite, News

The Ottawa Blizzard men’s elite team had another strong appearance at their latest tournament. Going into the event, they were seen as a middle of the pack team. However, the strong character, intensity and determination of the Blizzard gives them an edge on their opponents. In round robin action, Friday night, the Blizzard faced the tournament favorites, the Salming Vikings. The Vikings had plenty of fire power with 2 players from the Swedish Super League, Andreas Ackervi and Magnus Augustsson featured in Innebandy Magazinet. (more…)

This year’s newest addition to the Ottawa Blizzard Floorball Club, the Bantam Jr Blizzard, established itself as a hard working team that will give a run for your money. With a solid core of young skilled hockey players, they gained attention from many teams. (more…)

With a few players returning from last year, most of the roster was filled with newcomers that strived in the Ottawa Floorball League. Spartans OFL Champs

Posted: 10th March 2010 by davidtoupin in Jr Blizzard, News

Manor Park’s Ottawa Floorball League (Atom-Peewee) came to an end last night as 4 teams battled for Ottawa Floorball Supremacy. After exciting round robin games, the Vikings saw themselves face the Titans. The Titans offered some resistance but the Vikings came on top with spectacular performances from their goalie and defencemen. Their widespread offence was too much to handle as they exploded to a 7-2 3rd place finish. The Championship game was played between the Knights and Spartans. Right from the start, we knew this was going to be a long game. They exchanged a goals in the first period. In the second period, the Knights came out flying and scored 3 goals. However, the Spartans kept their heads up and started their reply with a goal. Both teams had solid defense and gave no openings to their opponents. In the third period, the Spartans and Knights exchanged a pair of goals and the Spartans potted two more for a 6-6 tie and bring this game to overtime. By then, both goalies had 25 plus saves under their belts, involving great athleticism, acrobatics and plenty of mask saves. During overtime, both teams had great scoring chances but the goalies’ stellar performances led this game to a shootout. Through the first 5 shooters, the Spartans put 2 on the board and the knights had 1. The Knights final shooter had the chance to keep things alive but wrung it off the post. Therefore, the Spartans claim the Manor Park Cup for the second year. Quite frankly, both teams deserved to win in this spirited tilt but unfortunately there could only be one winner, the Spartans.
