Blizzard Crowned Champions in France

Posted: 24th October 2010 by davidtoupin in News

During the spring of 2010, Eric Chevaucherie, the Blizzard’s latest addition proposed the idea of a match up against his former club, les Nordiques de Tourcoing, France. The Ottawa Blizzard entertained the idea and in August, received the invitation to an international tournament in France. With great anticipation, the club accepted the invitation.

On Saturday morning, the Blizzard faced les Nordiques de Tourcoing, Eric’s former team. The Blizzard got off to a strong start with the first goal coming from Chevaucherie. By the end of the first period, the Blizzard was up by 5 goals. The Nordiques weathered the storm in the second. They kept the damage to a minimum. However in the third, the Blizzard turned up the heat and scored another 3 goals. The final score of that game with 8-3 Ottawa.

Ottawa faced les Hoplites d’Ambiani in their second round robin game. Ottawa was slow out of the gates, underestimating their opponent. (more…)

Blizzard Wins 3 on 3 Quebec Floorball Tournament

Posted: 12th September 2010 by davidtoupin in News

The Ottawa Blizzard Floorball Club was in Montreal on Saturday to partake in the first ever 3 on 3 Quebec Floorball Tournament. Things seemed to be rolling their way, even after a 3 month off-season, as they went undefeated. Phil Paradis led the team with numerous goals, in what was an MVP performance. Sneddon and Smith had their fair share of goals also. The combination of Smith’s shootout goal and Goulet’s nerves of steel helped propel the Blizzard to the finals. The game winning goal was scored by none other than Paradis off a cross court pass from goaltender Goulet, with less than a minute remaining. Congratulations to Goulet, Paradis, Sneddon, Smith and Toupin.

It will be another eventful year for floorball in the Nation’s Capital. The Ottawa Blizzard will be hosting an icebreaker tournament in late September and will travel to Tourcoing, France in late October.

The regular season play will resume on Thursday, September 27th, from 8pm to 10pm at Assumption School, 236 Lévis Avenue. If you are a interested in joining the Club, please send us a short email with your name and email address so you can receive our weekly bulletin.
